Common questions
Fireplaces & Seating questions we get
- Why does my outdoor fireplace smoke?
- Usually firebox-to-flue proportions or insufficient chimney height relative to nearby structures and trees. Both are design issues, which is why the firebox geometry is worked out before construction rather than corrected after.
- Outdoor fireplace or fire pit?
- A fireplace blocks wind, directs heat one way and creates a focal wall. A pit seats more people around it and costs considerably less. Space and how you entertain decide it.
- Does an outdoor fireplace need a footing?
- Always. A full masonry fireplace weighs several tons, and a footing sized to the load and bearing on competent soil is what keeps it from cracking or tipping.
- Can I burn wood in it year-round?
- Subject to any local burn restrictions, yes. Gas log conversions are available where convenience or air-quality rules matter.
