Barn & Shop Site Work and Pads in North Georgia
Barn pads, shop pads, access, grading and drainage prepared before construction on horse farms and acreage across North Georgia.
Barn builders build barns. Everything that decides whether the building stays dry and usable — where it sits, what it sits on, and how water and equipment get around it — happens before they arrive. That is the part we own.
Part of our Barns, Shops & Outbuildings in North Georgia work across North Georgia.
What we see most often
- Pad cut into a hillside with no interceptor drain above it
- Slab poured on uncompacted fill and cracking within two years
- No apron, so mud tracks into the building year-round
- Power and water trenched in later at twice the cost
Scope of work
What this work includes
Siting & orientation
Building placement set by drainage, prevailing weather, equipment turning radius and the daily route between house and barn.
Cut, fill & compacted pad
Benching into slope, structural fill in lifts, and a compacted pad at the elevation your builder needs.
Perimeter & roof drainage
Interceptor swales above the pad, gutter discharge routed to daylight, and grade that falls away on all sides.
Aprons & utility corridors
Stone or concrete aprons at the doors plus trenching and sleeves for power, water and future runs.
A dry, compacted, well-drained site your barn builder can start on immediately.
How it goes
Our process
- Step 01
Site
Stake the building against drainage, access and daily use.
- Step 02
Bench & fill
Cut into slope, place and compact structural fill.
- Step 03
Drain
Interceptors above, positive fall away on every side.
- Step 04
Serve it
Aprons, approach and utility stubs before the builder mobilizes.
Common questions
Barn Site Work questions we get
- How level does a barn pad need to be?
- The pad itself should be flat and true to your builder's tolerance, but the ground around it must fall away. A perfectly level pad in a bowl is the most common wet-barn cause we see.
- Can you prepare the site before I pick a builder?
- Partly. Siting, clearing and rough grading can proceed, but final pad elevation and dimensions should wait for the building footprint so the pad matches the structure.
- Do I need a concrete slab in a barn?
- Depends on use. Equipment and shop space benefit from slab; horse stalls often do better with a compacted stone base and mats. We prepare for either.
- How much room should be graded around the building?
- Enough for a truck and trailer to work all sides during construction and for maintenance afterward — usually noticeably more than owners first expect.
