Common questions

Erosion Control questions we get

Why does my hillside keep eroding after repairs?
Almost always because the repair addressed the scar and not the source. Roof runoff, a driveway crown, or an upslope field can concentrate enough water to defeat any amount of fill. Diverting that flow first is what makes the repair permanent.
Is riprap always the answer?
No. Rock is right where velocity is high — outfalls, channel bottoms, toe of slope. Elsewhere, matting plus vegetation is cheaper, looks better and holds just as well once roots take.
How steep is too steep to stabilize with seed?
Beyond roughly 2:1, seed and matting alone struggle. Steeper faces usually need terracing, a wall, or benched grading to be reliable.
Will erosion control stop silt reaching my pond?
Combined with sediment traps and stabilized upslope areas, yes. Silt entering a pond comes from a specific place — we find it rather than treating the whole watershed.
