Pools, terraces and outdoor living in Buckhead
Buckhead holds some of the most valuable residential ground in Georgia, and much of it was graded decades before modern stormwater practice existed. Along West Paces Ferry, Habersham, Tuxedo Park and the streets off Northside Drive, one- to five-acre lots fall away sharply behind the house, drain toward a neighbor or a creek, and carry retaining structures that have been quietly failing for twenty years.
Outdoor living is where site work becomes something you sit in. Because we've already handled the grading and drainage, the patio sits at the right elevation, the lawn drains, and the planting has soil worth growing in.
Full Outdoor Living serviceWhat we see locally
- Patios that pond water or settle unevenly
- Beautiful plantings installed over compacted construction fill
- Lawns that stay soggy in the same corner every year
- No lighting, so the whole investment disappears at dark
Scope of work
How the work runs on a Buckhead property
Patios & hardscape
Bluestone, flagstone, pavers and concrete set on compacted base with pitch that moves water away from the house.
Structures & fire features
Pavilions, pergolas, outdoor kitchens, fireplaces and fire pits integrated with the grade instead of set on top of it.
Planting & lawn
Soil rebuilding, native and adapted plantings, tree installation and durable turf established the right way.
Lighting & irrigation
Low-voltage lighting for drives, entries, trees and steps, plus irrigation zoned for how the property is actually used.
Space that pulls you outside after dinner, and still looks right after a decade of weather.

StructuresRetaining Walls That Last: What Holds the Hill UpSteep rear slopes behind older homes
Many Buckhead lots drop hard behind the house. Usable outdoor space almost always requires engineered retaining walls and a drainage plan before any finish work is possible.
City of Atlanta tree ordinance
Atlanta's tree protection rules are among the strictest in the state. Removals require permits and recompense, and root zones must be protected during grading and construction.
Aging, undersized drainage
Original clay tile, buried downspouts and hand-laid stone walls fail slowly. We locate what's there, then replace it with a system sized for today's storms.
Tight access and neighbor proximity
Narrow drives, limited staging and close neighbors mean smaller equipment, careful sequencing and crews who keep a clean, quiet site.
Questions
Buckhead FAQs
Do you work inside the city of Atlanta?
Yes. Buckhead and the north side of the city are a core market for us, and we're set up for City of Atlanta permitting, tree protection requirements and tight in-town job sites.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Buckhead?
In most cases yes. The City of Atlanta tree ordinance requires a permit for removal of protected trees and may require recompense. We handle the assessment and application as part of site planning.
My backyard is too steep to use. Can it be fixed?
Usually. Terracing with engineered retaining walls plus a real drainage plan is the standard solution on Buckhead's sloped lots, and it typically creates one or two level usable areas where there were none.
Water is running off my property onto my neighbor's. What can be done?
We locate where the water is entering and leaving the site, then design capture and conveyance — basins, drains and regraded swales — that discharge to an appropriate outfall rather than across a property line.
Can you work with my architect or builder?
Yes, regularly. We coordinate grading, drainage and hardscape with the design and construction team so the site work supports the architecture instead of fighting it.
How disruptive is the work to neighbors?
We plan access, staging and haul routes in advance, use equipment sized for the site, and keep the job clean. On tight streets we schedule deliveries to limit blockage.
