Retaining Walls & Slope Grading in North Georgia

Engineered retaining walls and terracing

North metro Atlanta runs from the steep, canopied estate lots of Buckhead and Sandy Springs, north through the executive acreage of Roswell, Alpharetta, Johns Creek and Milton, west across Marietta and East Cobb, and out to the working acreage of Woodstock, Canton and Ball Ground. It looks like several markets, but the ground shares one thing: Piedmont red clay that sheds water fast and punishes anyone who grades before they plan drainage.

Most failed walls in this region didn't fail structurally — they failed because water had nowhere to go. Every wall we build is a drainage system first and a stone feature second.

What we see locally

  • Existing walls leaning, bulging or shedding stone
  • Steep ground that leaves no flat, usable yard
  • Erosion cutting behind and beneath wall footings
  • Terraces that trap water against the house

Scope of work

How the work runs on a North Atlanta property

01

Natural stone & boulder walls

Locally sourced stone set for the look of the property, from rustic boulder tiers to tight-fit dry-stack.

02

Engineered segmental walls

Block systems with geogrid reinforcement where wall height and surcharge loads call for it.

03

Drainage & base

Compacted base, clean drainage stone, filter fabric and perforated pipe daylighted somewhere useful.

04

Terracing & steps

Multi-tier layouts, stone steps and planting shelves that turn an unusable slope into level, livable ground.

Flat, usable space where there was a bank — built to stand without maintenance.

Red clay that sheds water

Piedmont clay compacts hard and moves water fast once cleared. Every project in this corridor lives or dies on drainage design done before grading.

A different rulebook every few miles

City of Atlanta tree rules, Fulton stormwater review, Cobb and Cherokee land disturbance permits — each jurisdiction reviews differently. We plan to the local standard.

Runoff from upstream development

Continuous build-out north of the city sends more water downhill every year. Systems sized a decade ago are now undersized.

Access and staging

Tight in-town streets on one end, long unimproved drives on the other. Equipment selection and haul planning change market to market.

Questions

North Atlanta FAQs

Which north Atlanta cities do you serve?

Buckhead, Sandy Springs, Roswell, Alpharetta, Milton, Johns Creek, Marietta, East Cobb, Woodstock, Canton, Ball Ground, Cumming and the surrounding communities, plus the North Georgia mountain markets above them.

Do you work inside the perimeter?

Yes. Buckhead and Sandy Springs are active markets for us, and we're set up for in-town access constraints and City of Atlanta permitting.

Do you take small residential projects or only acreage?

Both. A backyard drainage correction or a wall replacement in Marietta is as much our work as a forty-acre buildout in Cherokee County.

Why is drainage such a common problem on the north side?

Red clay sheds water quickly, and decades of upstream development send more volume downhill each year. Most failures we see are undersized or missing conveyance, not soil.

Can you coordinate with my builder or architect?

Yes, routinely. We handle grading, drainage, hardscape and structures alongside the design and construction team.

How fast can you get out for a site visit?

Usually within a few days across the north metro corridor. Call 678-578-8114 or send the property details and we'll schedule a walk.
